Network Settings for Viritual Box Virtual Machines

In this article, we will make network settings for the virtual machines that we have installed in the virtual machine manager. You can test it by applying the various settings that we are going to make and what they do.

After opening the virtual machine manager, right-click on the virtual machine where we are going to change the network setting and click on Settings .

Then open the Network tab from the menu that opens;

Virtualbox allows us to add multiple virtual network cards to virtual machines. In the example we will discuss here, we will set Adapter 1 , that is, only the first adapter. For this reason, activate the Enable this adapter option in the first tab.

Let's take a look at the options and touch on the settings and others we'll use in the course;

NAT, or network address translation technology (which we will talk about in the basic networking section of our course), is a network technology that creates an internal network and allows multiple machines to benefit from the external address at the same time. The virtual machines that we select the NAT option will be included in an internal network just like the computers in the house and will communicate with each other through IP addresses on the internal network. The external IP address of this NAT table is our computer, which is the physical server. In other words, while the virtual machines communicate within themselves, Virtualbox acts as a router and access to the internet is provided through our physical computer.

NAT Network

When we want to create more than one different internal network on VirtualBox, we can create different NAT networks and run virtual machines on these networks. Virtual machines A and B are on network X, virtual machines C and D can run on network Y, and if they do not have a common network share, they cannot communicate with each other when there are no common machines.

Attention! You must set this setting to the NAT Network location on each machine to enable the virtual machines used to communicate with each other. After making this setting, restart your virtual machines.

As you can see in the picture, we can create Nat Network segments.

In order to add different machines to the same NAT segment, we need to select NatNetwork from the network settings on our virtual machine.

Bridged Adapter

When we want the virtual machines running on VirtualBox to be connected directly to the network card on our physical computer, we use the bridge connection. In this case, the IP address of your virtual machine will be the same as your physical computer.

Internal Network

Internal Network is pretty much the same thing as the Bridged Adapter, your virtual machine can access your computer's network card. However, the external network that is connected to is limited to only virtual machines running on the same computer.
