.NET Framework 3.5 installation fails

This article describes how to troubleshoot the issue where the installation of the .NET Framework 3.5 fails in server 2019.

By default, the .NET Framework 3.5 isn't installed on Server 2019, and also resources aren't installed.

If you open Roles and Features, select the feature, and then start the installation, you will most likely receive an error message (0x800F0950).

The same is true when you download from a Microsoft content server and try to install it with dism or Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature.

How to resolve the .NET Framework 3.5 installation fails error

You must import the resources from the sourcessxs folder of the Server 2019 iso file. If the installation DVD is still inserted (this is usually the case if you set up a virtual machine), you can enter the path (most likely d:sourcessxs) on the Confirmation page of the Add Roles and Features wizard by selecting Specify an alternate source path.
